Overdose is a heartbreaking and devastating epidemic — one that has shattered millions of lives.
The truth is: overdoses are preventable. It starts with us — having the tough conversations, building awareness, and educating ourselves.
Addiction is a disease, just like any other. It deserves support, care, and understanding — not stigma or shame.
Let’s be the ones who hold space.
Who speak up.
Who choose compassion.
Who help save lives.
April 22, 2023 I lost my brother Evan, 28 years old to an overdose. Evan was a beautiful and brilliant soul, a brother, a son, a friend and force to be reckon with. He had this thing, I like to think he got it from me - his older sister - he was never wrong. So in his honor, I will keep the track record going. He was sensitive and strong, delicate and brave, but most of all, he was a beautiful light that was full of love to be shared. My favorite, well one of my favorite memories of Evan, was the way he hugged me anytime we said goodbye to one another and he would always say “I love you Aubz”. One of the few people to call me “Aubz” regularly….
I believe we carry many purposes in this lifetime. I believe one of Evan’s, was to continue to live through me and all of you that are still reading this. Not just to learn, educate and help eliminate this epidemic on drugs, but to bring consciousness, togetherness and the power of this very moment into our lives. Just how special, beautiful, fragile and amazing life is.
The plan is to walk the beach meeting at Torrey Pines North Beach Parking lot (if the tide is high, we will walk Torrey Pines) and wear PURPLE. The color purple represents International Overdose Awareness Day, also, happened to be Evan’s favorite color (he loved the Minnesota Vikings). I will work on getting Narcan to pass out and other resources to share regarding overdoses and how we can help prevent them. If you have any other ideas, please share.
